The Calvarino vineyard, certified organic, is located in the heart of the Soave Classico zone at an altitude of 200-300 meters with basalt-rich soil and is the most ancient of the Pieropan family, having been purchased in 1901. Calvarino means Little Calvary, referring to the difficulties of working the land in the past and the winding path leading to the sea.
The first label under the name Calvarino was introduced in 1971 and is a prestigious example of the character of a true Soave Classico with floral aromas as well as citrus and cherry fruit. Well-balanced and refined on the palate with a lingering finish and excellent aging potential.
Hand harvested over several years in two stages for optimal grape maturity, in mid-September for Trebbiano Di Soave (70%) and in October for Garganega (30%). Grape selection and fermentation in cement tanks with glass lining at a controlled temperature of 14-18ºC. The fine lees are left for a year, bottled, and left in the bottle for a few months before being released on the market.
