Podere Le Ripi

The story of Podere Le Ripi Societe is interesting, subversive, with a cooperative feeling. It all started with a landscape photographer, Francesco Illy, who met the place where his winery was meant to be, when it was still a pasture. 600 acres of virgin landscape. It was love at first sight! Later, when a Burgundian viticulturist told him that his vineyards would take more than 35 years to produce remarkable wines, as their roots were not yet deep, this made him think upside down & innovatively: he forced his plants to go through different geological layers in less time, so that they reach deeper with their roots in the ground, in order to survive. Its wines, which come mainly from individual privately owned vineyards, are grown biodynamically and in a controlled quantity.
