In 2014, The Smuggler's Boot wines were first released. The name origins from the period of trade blockades in South Africa, when farmers & vintners were smuggling vine rootstock into the country by smuggling rootstock into the country by hiding the plants in Wellington boots. The Smuggler's Boot Series celebrates this ingenuity.
Pale lemon color, nose with bright aromas of blackcurrant, lemon, nettle, apple, and tangerine. The chalk dust adds complexity to the wine. Dry, initially zesty on the palate, with lingering acidity supported by a delicate creamy texture. Excellent concentration, with fruit such as mature apple, and grapefruit, subtle notes of sweet passion fruit expressed alongside a smooth, lime/lemon combination and sweetness. Lengthy and surprisingly smooth finish.
